Happy birthday to Detroit

Tequila - Photo by Miguel Prado
Today is the city of Detroit's 312th birthday. It was on this day in 1701 that Antoine de la Mothe sur de Cadillac landed in Detroit and established Fort Pontchartrain du Detroit to protect French fur trading routes. That military fort, of course, later evolved into the city that we know and love today.

There was also some Canadian guy who decided to celebrate Detroit's birthday recently by getting drunk and swimming across the Detroit river. I guess that's how they celebrate a 312th birthday in Canada.

Anyway, today is also National Tequila Day. This is appropriate because, now that the City of Detroit is in bankruptcy, we will all need lots of tequila to get through this mess.

If anyone needs me, I'll be at Tijuana's Mexican Kitchen (18950 Ford Rd.) after work to celebrate both occasions.
