$50 Million by the 4th of July

Mayor Dave Bing has expressed an uncertainty as to how to implement the $25 million in cuts to the budget that the City Council called for without reducing the already limited services that residents receive. I sent him a letter towards the end of last week in which I showed him how he could cut more than $25 million and, more importantly, do it all without cutting services one bit.

My letter to Mayor Bing is available on-line here. If and when I receive a response from the mayor, or any of the other government officials that I sent this letter to, I will post it on this blog.

I wonder if we could also get some long-term savings by dumping the Detroit Lighting Department and letting DTE manage the power grid and light poles?

DTE is an expert at managing a power grid. Detroit Lighting, after the downtown blackout that lasted two days this summer, is obviously not.

I haven't looked into that. However, it is definitely something that is examining closely.
