Detroit Rallies to Save the Historic Rouge Park

Mayor Dave Bing and the City Council have proposed the closure of Rouge Park in Detroit's Warrendale neighborhood in order to save money. A few dozen residents turned out this afternoon in a rally to protest this move.

A short video clip from this rally is embedded below.

As the battle over the future of Rouge Park evolves, I will cover it here as always.

Update @ 6:58 p.m.
The Detroit News is reporting that a tentative deal has been reached between Mayor Bing and the Detroit City Council. As a result of this deal, not only has the layoff of police officers and firefighters been averted but the closure of 77 parks has also undone.
