DPD Is Hiring

I want to remind everyone that the Detroit Police Department is still looking to hire more than 300 new officers. They currently have cadets in the police academy, but they need even more in order to keep up with Detroit's needs.

Pay starts at $32,613 while a student police officer is in the academy and goes up from there, eventually reaching $53,237 after 5 years of service. With as many folks in the Detroit area out of work as there are, there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to fill those slots from our neighborhood.

The minimum requirements to be a Detroit police officer are:
  • U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age;
  • Vision must be 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 in each eye;
  • Depth perception and color vision must be normal;
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record;
  • High school diploma or a valid GED; and
  • No felony convictions.
If you know of anyone who is currently out of work or is working a dead-end job, please encourage them to consider a career with the Detroit Police Department. If you have any other questions, they can visit the DPD website or call the Recruiting Section at (313) 596-2660.
