A group of children on Minock decided to beat the early summer heat by opening a fire hydrant. I'm sure this was fun for them.
There are, however, a few problems with doing this. First and foremost, opening one fire hydrant lowers the water pressure at all of the other ones in the area. If a fire erupted in the area, this could be a problem.
In addition, it causes the surrounding streets to flood and interferes with traffic.
I can't blame the kids for not thinking of those things. The adults nearby, however, are another story.
According to the Department of Water & Sewage, several people called to complain about it. Eventually, something will happen.
