Breaking News: Police Crash in Dearborn Heights

I was running errands at 4:30 this afternoon and saw the aftermath of a bad traffic accident involving a Dearborn Heights police officer. It was on Ford Rd., just a couple blocks east of Telegraph Rd. The incident resulted in Ford Rd. being closed in both directions for almost an hour while an investigation was completed.

According to a Dearborn police officer on the scene, an elderly female motorist tried making a turn on Ford Rd. and turned directly into a motorcycle police officer. The officer was reportedly thrown more than 12 feet away from his motorcycle by the force of this impact. It wasn't clear what condition the officer was in but the motorist in question was in police custody.

UPDATE - 6:57 p.m.
WWJ Newsradio 950 is reporting that the police officer involved in this crash is in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
